The Eldred v. Ashcroft case (soon to be before the Supreme Court) will test the constitutionality of the Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act. How does a copyright term of 95-years promote the sciences and useful arts? I think one could claim that a shorter copyright would require authors to create more (since they can't sit on their laurels indefinately).

The reason for all the intellectual property insanity, of course, is the same as it always is in our government: money. Some very rich corporations are out there fighting for these rights. Not your rights, mind you. The same entities who want mandatory security chips in all electronics. The same entities who want a legal carte-blanche to attack your computer.

Don't forget that we're at "war" and we're still killing people.
