Our home away from home in Montréal-- the Chateau Versailles.
127_2769_1.jpg
We wandered over to Vieux Montréal and took a guided tour of the Notre-Dame Basilica.
127_2770_1.jpg
While wandering around Old Port, we saw a poster for the Mosaïcultures Internationales exhibition and decided to go. The theme was Myths and Legends of the World.
127_2772_1.jpg
The matryoshka dolls were cute.
127_2773_1.jpg
John Belushi is Samurai Kite Maker.
127_2775_1.jpg
This one was very dramatic.
127_2776_1.jpg
Canadian geese, eh?
127_2777_1.jpg
A topiary tsunami (with Mt. Fuji on the left).
127_2780_1.jpg
The knight in shining armor...
127_2781_1.jpg
the dragon...
127_2782_1.jpg
and the damsel in distress (chained to the tree).
127_2783_1.jpg
Lizard!
127_2785_1.jpg
My own personal fave: topiary moai.
127_2787_1.jpg
How cool is that?
127_2789_1.jpg
I want them on my front lawn.
127_2791_1.jpg
Fern Totem.
127_2793_1.jpg
(Actually, no ferns were involved.)
127_2795_1.jpg
This is an "inukshuk"-- a rock pile used to mark trails or campsites in the Arctic.
127_2796_1.jpg
Moose!
127_2798_1.jpg
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
128_2802_1.jpg
This one was just so darn cool; I really liked the waterfalls.
128_2805_1.jpg
The cobras were also nifty... their tails snaked through several of the previous exhibits.
128_2814_1.jpg
No penguin topiary.
128_2815_1.jpg
Modern art with penguin.
128_2816_1.jpg
Irish pub (we had lunch at the creperie next door).
128_2818_1.jpg
We went to Olympic Stadium, home of the Montréal Expos.
128_2819_1.jpg
There was some sort of minor league game (or practice or something) going on while we were there.
128_2821_1.jpg
I'd never been to an indoor stadium before. It's kind of weird having a roof.
128_2822_1.jpg
Cheese.
128_2824_1.jpg
While we were at Olympic Park, we took a funicular to the top of the observation tower.
128_2825_1.jpg
On the way up...
128_2826_1.jpg
And up...
128_2827_1.jpg
Looking out over the Botanical Garden. You can see the Chinese Garden to the left (with the brightly-colored lanterns).
128_2828_1.jpg
Looking toward Old Town/ Old Port.
128_2829_1.jpg
Montréal skyline.
128_2830_1.jpg
A better view of Old Port.
128_2831_1.jpg
Looking down from the Observation Tower to the plaza below.
128_2834_1.jpg
Riding back down.
128_2835_1.jpg
Looking up the tower.
128_2836_1.jpg
The Biodôme (actually the velodrome during the Olympics) and the Observation Tower.
128_2837_1.jpg
A better view of the Tower.
128_2850_1.jpg
Penguins frolicking in the Biodôme.
128_2851_1.jpg
Watching the show.
128_2853_1.jpg
Souvenir sack.
128_2855_1.jpg
We also went to the Insectarium. I didn't take pix of the exhibits, but it was interesting seeing all the butterflies and scary bugs.
128_2856_1.jpg
We also visited the Botanical Garden.
128_2857_1.jpg
The Chinese Garden was set up for the Lantern Festival, which unfortunately didn't start until the next week.
128_2858_1.jpg
It was nice wandering around for a bit. We didn't stay to watch the sunset because we were getting hungry.
128_2859_1.jpg
Here are a few lanterns.
128_2860_1.jpg
Goodbye, Olympic Park!
128_2861_1.jpg
Goodbye, penguins!
128_2862_1.jpg
On our way home, we visited Dan's parents in Vermont.
128_2863_1.jpg
And you can't go to Vermont without visiting Ben & Jerry's.
128_2864_1.jpg
Best. Flavor. Ever.
128_2865_1.jpg
Snuffy, this is the print that I bid on (and won) at Worldcon. It's called "At the Drive-In" and the artist is Yokoyama Eiji.
