Chopper run

Hard to believe, but it seems like the Capital District has gotten even weirder since I left.

It's hard to figure where city resident Joe Amash might have made his first mistake.

Was it in using an allegedly stolen debit card to buy $500 worth of groceries at a Central Avenue Price Chopper on Aug. 24?

Using his own Advantage card to get deeper discounts?

Getting caught on the store's videotape arguing with a check-out clerk about being overcharged?

Or could it have been the alibi that had grand jurors and police in hysterics that he got the stolen KeyBank Mastercard in a trade with a one-legged man in a bar for a bag of marijuana? […]

I miss Albany! The only surprising thing about this story is that it wasn't the Delaware Avenue Price Chopper (affectionately known as Ghetto Chopper). I used to live right around the corner on Jefferson Street and let me tell you, the freaks came out at night...

Talk about freaks. Iwan, got attacked in the Friendly's next door to Price Chopper by some guy; We were paying for our ice cream. Some guy came entered the Friendly's door. He looked really perturbed. He saw us looking at him, and rushed Iwan. He had his hands on Iwan's leather jacket coller. Iwan got control over the guys hands by keeping his hands over the guys hands. They just kind of did Sumo Wrestler circles while connected. Then Troy police came and took the guy away. I was just thankful that a martial arts man stood between me and that disturbed guy at the beginning of the incident.

Curt— great to hear from you! I had no idea that were a reader of popplers (or at least an occasional reader). Cool.

Anonymous Poster #2— I understand your concern, but haven't we all wanted to strangle Iwan at some point in time? (BTW, did Iwan press charges?)

I think every town with a Price Chopper had a ghetto-chopper. The one on Hoosick in Troy was ours. And the one in Watervliet, actually... Maybe they were ALL ghetto-choppers.
