Don't-miss comic from Mike Russell: The not-so-secret history of 'Aeon Flux'. Fantastic!
Posted by rv at November 28, 2005 02:31 PM to movieI never saw any of the originals so the link was actually a nice little background piece for me. Quite funny even though I was probably missing many jokes.
The most intriguing thing is how almost everyone (not just the link, but on cf's discussion of the movie) seems to focus on the PG-13 rating.
I watched the original shorts on MTV's Liquid Television, and was psyched when it became its own show. I even have a DVD with the original episodes (and I see that they're releasing a spiffy 3-DVD set with all kinds of extras and commentary). You may be able to get the DVD through Netflix— not sure if you're still doing that.
I can understand the concern about the PG-13 stuff, actually. Aeon Flux wasn't a kiddie cartoon. It was animation, for adults, with adult themes. It was edgy. It was sexy. It was often extremely violent. I am worried that this live action movie will become a sanitized, Disney-ized shadow of its former self. And if they do that, it's worse than if the movie had never been made in the first place.
But I've seen the trailer and it looks pretty cool. I like Charlize. And I'll wait to see how it does on Rotten Tomatoes. If it gets a half-way decent rating, I'll go see it in the theatres. If it doesn't, I'll wait for rental/ cable.
Posted by: rv at November 29, 2005 10:57 AMThe 3 DVD set is out and available at Netflix, well, kinda:
"The first disc in this series has a very long wait."
I wonder if this will be like Bonfire of the Vanities where most everyone who had read it before seeing it thought it stunk but those who hadn't seen it didn't think it was that bad.
