If you need me, me and Neil will be hanging out with the dream king

I'm so psyched— tonight, we're going to see Neil Gaiman at MIT. He is the inaugural speaker for The Julius Schwartz Lecture series, presented by MIT's Comparative Media Studies program. The lecture is sold out, but they are apparently recording it for future DVD release.

Give o'er the play!

Acme Theater is taking The Complete Works of Shakespeare (abridged) to the EMACT Drama Festival next month. On Wednesday night, we had rehearsal and I was surprised at how much of the props and costumes routine that I still remember. (Thank god we kept all our notes.) The festival version has been edited for time— it has to run under an hour— so it's quick and fun. And I no longer have to wrestle with the accursed Ophelia dress. Yay!

So, if you want to be a part of the silliness, get thee to Groton, MA on Sunday, June 15. The festival runs June 12-15, and Shakespeare is the last show of the festival!

Bad art, good cause

You'd never know it from their web site, but the venerable Museum of Bad Art is opening a new location in Davis Square. Party starts tonight at 7 pm! (I'll be there to serve refreshments and gape in horror at the new works.)

We need to celebrate. We'll do it on Wednesday, May 14. Plans include:

- open a new MOBA exhibit, with works from our new book.
- - - unveil some never-before-seen works of bad art.
- - - - - introduce the MOBA staff.
- - - - - - - sell and sign books.
- - - - - - - - - have a few laughs.

WHO'S INVITED? You are! Bring your friends and family too. If you're not in the Boston area, book your flight now.

WHERE? In the basement of the Somerville Theatre in Davis Square.

WHEN? 7 to 9 pm

IS THERE WINE & CHEESE? Sure, that's standard fare for an art opening. But we do it the MOBA way. There will be plenty of Kool-Aid and brightly colored snack foods. You can buy wine, beer, popcorn, and more in the theatre lobby.

Mayday! Mayday!

So glad that the electrical fires in Harvard Square didn't happen yesterday— I can just imagine the headlines… Flaming Morris dancers everywhere! Oh, the humanity!

(WCVB has video footage of the flames shooting out of the manhole covers. It's impressively scary. This is a stone's throw from where the maypole crowd gathered yesterday.)

May Day! May Day!

Reason #1,472 why I love the People's Republic of Cambridge: where else can I walk down the street and encounter Morris dancers weaving the maypole and leading the crowd in May songs?
