Bad art, good cause

You'd never know it from their web site, but the venerable Museum of Bad Art is opening a new location in Davis Square. Party starts tonight at 7 pm! (I'll be there to serve refreshments and gape in horror at the new works.)

We need to celebrate. We'll do it on Wednesday, May 14. Plans include:

- open a new MOBA exhibit, with works from our new book.
- - - unveil some never-before-seen works of bad art.
- - - - - introduce the MOBA staff.
- - - - - - - sell and sign books.
- - - - - - - - - have a few laughs.

WHO'S INVITED? You are! Bring your friends and family too. If you're not in the Boston area, book your flight now.

WHERE? In the basement of the Somerville Theatre in Davis Square.

WHEN? 7 to 9 pm

IS THERE WINE & CHEESE? Sure, that's standard fare for an art opening. But we do it the MOBA way. There will be plenty of Kool-Aid and brightly colored snack foods. You can buy wine, beer, popcorn, and more in the theatre lobby.

Mucha!

Alphonse Mucha: Triumph of Art Nouveau
Several years ago, Worcester Art Museum had an exhibit of the work of Alphonse Mucha and we enjoyed it immensely. So I was very pleased to find this online exhibit.

Strange, but fun

Bunny. Bunny bunny.

Don't think that the bunny is art? Create your own.

"It's time to rock it old school!'"

Dig-DugWired News has an interesting article on the new i am 8-bit art exhibit in L.A.

Artist Luke Chuen agreed there's something inherently appealing about the low-res aesthetic. His canvas captures a Dig Dug villain at the exact moment it's about to explode. Chuen thinks the old games represent a turning point in art history.
"Creating characters that players could identify with and even develop emotional attachments to within an 8-bit environment forced designers to rethink the rules of 20th-century iconography and visual communication," Chuen said. "I can't think of another defining moment when the rules that governed the art world were forced to work with the rules that governed the math world."

Stocking stuffers

What kid wouldn't be thrilled by a tekka-maki sitting under the tree on Christmas morning?

Heidi Kenney also makes cupcake dolls. Oh, and I am pretty sure that she is completely insane.
